Gas leak and evacuation at 10,012 Valley Boulevard
A resident delivered a petition signed by 41 of 42 tenants after the second gas leak in four months caused by construction at the adjacent 10,024 Valley Boulevard site — including a pregnant woman evacuated with gas in her lungs. He demanded an investigation of the contractor, penalties for the property manager, and reformed evacuation protocols.
Immigration enforcement and city response
Nearly three hours of public testimony centered on the January 30 detention of legal observer Maria Sante by federal agents while El Monte police were on scene. Residents demanded a sanctuary ordinance, an independent investigation of the police response, restroom-incident accountability, and protections for garment workers and day laborers. The council took no vote but directed the ad hoc committee to work with the city attorney and return with policies.
